Usually very young animals are not adopted until they are at least eight weeks old. However, since we know that normal does not apply sometimes, our time-table can apply to kittens who are as young as six weeks old.
Recommended Pet Care for Kittens
6-8 weeks of age
(1st week of ownership)
- 1st exam
- Distemper vaccine
- De-worming
- Learn how to trim your kitten’s nails
- Microchip (optional)
10-12 weeks
- Distemper booster
- Fecal analysis
- FeLV/FIV combo test (if positive, retest at 6 months)
- FeLV vaccine for indoor/outdoor cats
- Flea prevention if needed
- Discuss SoftPaws option
14-16 weeks
- Distemper booster
- FeLV booster for indoor/outdoor cats
- Rabies vaccine
4-6 months(or over 2 lb. weight)
- Spay/Neuter surgery
- Pre-anesthetic blood work (recommended, not required)
1 year and older
- Annual exam
- Three-year Rabies vaccine
- Annual Distemper vaccine
- Annual FeLV vaccine if indoor/outdoor cat
- Heartworm/parasite preventative if indoor/outdoor cat
- Flea prevention if needed
- Fecal analysis
- Nail trims as needed
