When I was a student at Indiana University, I was studying Journalism.  Many of my classes involved the use of computers for word processing, Internet usage, and layout and design of newspapers and magazines.  During my studies there, I produced an online magazine and learned how to make web pages.  I was originally taught to build web sites "from stratch" so during my time at Indiana University, I  learned how to use hypertext markup language.  While I was guest teaching in Pinckney, Michigan,  I was able to take a course called "Teaching for Tomorrow" and guest teach in several computer lab settings.  This is how I first heard of MCOATT.  While working as a permanent guest teacher, I had the opportunity to do a limited distance learning experience where I lectured two classes at once with my voice coming through the computers in both classrooms.
As a student at Eastern, I use the Internet as a resource for lesson planning ideas and up-to-date information in the field of education.  Through EDMT 330, a required technology course for students in elementary education programs, I learned about  Web Quests, virtual field trips, and distant education.  I also got some of the ideas for technology integration in my unit from other teachers who had posted their ideas on the Internet.    Throughout my student teaching experience, I communicated with staff and administration extensively on email.  The principal of North Creek Elementary School sent out a weekly newsletter and frequently sent emails to the staff.   I seek out opportunities to learn more about technology and  I always consider what is developmentally  and ethically appropriate when selecting technology for student use.  According to technology teachers I have subbed for, I am able to solve common classroom hardware and software problems in classrooms that many other teachers are fearful of.
