Outcome 2

Students will demonstrate leadership by:

2.1  Communicating effectively

HOW I DEMONSTRATE THIS: I communicate with fellow teachers and staff members through informal discussions, typed memos, e-mails, online discussion groups, blogs, staff meetings, and professional development workshops.

LIST OF ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT MY NARRATIVE:

Provided PD's for teachers at Garfield Elementary in various science and technology lessons.

Disseminate information from district and local ISD to teachers at Garfield through memos and emails.

While enrolled in EDMT 603 each team took responsibility of one of the units. We effectively communicated with team members through e-mails, online chats, and online discussion boards. The same forms of communication were also used to communicate with the rest of the class.

While enrolled in the EDMT 623 course, Instructional Design, I was the team facilitator for a week. The jobs were rotated on a weekly basis.

2.2  Working collaboratively

HOW I DEMONSTRATE THIS: For most of my time at Garfield Elementary I have team taught with teachers where we have shared the subject areas. We meet on a regular basis and discuss what we are doing in our classrooms and how we can better provide for our students. I have also been on various committees.

LIST OF ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT MY NARRATIVE:

Team taught in the second, third, and fifth grades. I have been the science teacher for each of the years that I team taught.

Weekly grade level and house team meetings.

Participated on Leadership Team, curriculum coordinators, and MEAP planning team.

In graduate courses at Eastern Michigan University many of the tasks and assignments were collaborative in nature. I have been in many successful teams where we effectively produced presentations and/or lessons for the class.

2.3  Using technology effectively

HOW I DEMONSTRATE THIS: Integrating technology in the classroom in all content areas. Having students use the school's equipment.

LIST OF ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT MY NARRATIVE:

Powerpoint presentation in science and social studies.

DigitalCurriculum and UnitedStreaming use.

Student Broadcast Team

Student Powerpoint presentations in social studies

During the 2005-2006 school year I was the technology teacher for Garfield Elementary, grades K-6. The lessons and activities ranged from basic use and understanding of the computer to utilizing productivity software, to research on the internet and use of multimedia software and on-line sites.

2.4  Engaging in exemplary professional practice

HOW I DEMONSTRATE THIS: To be a professional practitioner one needs to be in regular communication with others who are in the same career. As teachers we tend to spend more time with our students and we have a difficulty finding time to meet and connect with our peers. Being on a committee and sharing with fellow teachers is a great way to become a better teacher and to validate what we do.

LIST OF ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT MY NARRATIVE:

Member of the Garfield Elementary Leadership Team while the science curriculum coordinator (1999-2005).

Member of MACUL.

Member of the Flint Community School's Technology Intergration Commitee.

2.5  Advocating for children and young adults

HOW I DEMONSTRATE THIS: Working with my principal to have a technology teacher at our school. Knowing how far behind many of the children are at our school when it comes to technology and computer use I strive to have every child become technology literate when they leave Garfield.

LIST OF ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT MY NARRATIVE:

Became the school's technology teacher, grades K-6, for the 2005-2006 school year.

Working with administration to continue this position for future school years.

2.6  Engaging in continuous professional development
