Reflection:

I will subscribe to the following associations in order to keep in touch with all advances in technology and communications that would help me to improve my teaching methods and to effectively use the technology. In addition, I will be learning and I will be up-to-date on different information, such as networking opportunities, incorporating computers and the Internet.

                                                                        AECT, ISTE, MACUL, IFETS

AECT  Association for Educational Communications and Technology

The mission of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology is to provide leadership in educational communications and technology by linking professionals holding a common interest in the use of educational technology and its application to the learning process.

ISTE  International Society for Technology in Education

ISTE is a nonprofit professional organization with a worldwide membership of leaders and potential leaders in educational technology. We are dedicated to providing leadership and service to improve teaching and learning by advancing the effective use of technology in K–12 education and teacher education. We provide our members with information, networking opportunities, and guidance as they face the challenge of incorporating computers, the Internet, and other new technologies into their schools.

MACUL  Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning

The Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) is a non-profit organization established in 1975 dedicated to bringing educators from all levels together to share their knowledge and concerns regarding educational uses of computers and technology.

IFETS  International Forum of Educational Technology & Society

The International Forum of Educational Technology and Society (IFETS) encourages discussions on the issues affecting the educational system developer (including AI) and education communities. This approach helps in developing specific aspects concerning the design and implementation of integrated learning environments while sharpening the overall vision about the purpose and processes of education. The discussions are aimed to be definitive and helpful in reaching some conclusions. The discussions are structured in the form of problem definition, fixed term discussions focusing towards some conclusive end. The conclusions are then put in concrete form for public dissemination.

Proficiency A

Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts and learning related to information age learning processes and techniques, including individualizing instruction, student-centered learning, interdisciplinary instruction, grouping by mastery and maturity, engaging and authentic learning, use of rich multi-media and interactive content, virtual and long distance learning, and instructional practices enhanced by evidence of learning from student work.

Examples: Power Point Presentation
                Scavenger Hunt

Reflection:

Using Power Point Presentation in my classroom will help students to understand better many subjects or unit lessons in general. I can use professional titles, descriptions, patterns and colors, which will help mein  teaching topics that require a visual strategy. Power Point could make it easy to capture, synchronize, and publish audio, video, slides, and images in general (clip art or jpeg). As a teacher, I will create effective media-rich presentations that can be viewed in my classroom or on a Web browser.

Proficiency B

Applies Michigan technology standards and benchmarks when planning learning environments and experiences.

Identifies and locates technology resources and evaluates them for accuracy, effectiveness, and appropriateness.

Example:
How To Create Database Using Java Programming

Reflection:

We can identify technology resources in different ways: Internet, text books, magazines, trade books, scientist articles, etc. The above example is a instructional book that shows how to create database using Java language. It has good examples, lines of codes, illustrations, etc. This book will be helpful to my students to start making databases.

Proficiency C

Uses technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse and individual needs of all students.

Example:  Scavenger Hunt

Reflection:

I will use Internet scavenger hunts, because these could be helpful for students to practice and learn how to search the Internet. It will also be  helpful to students in problem solving, and improving their reading and comprehension skills.

Scavenger hunts, or treasure hunts, could be useful tools for accessing and using the resources and information available on the Internet. I believe that Online scavenger hunts are easy to create and the resulting interactive searches are both fun and informative for students. I can also use these online scavenger hunts as a whole class activity, forming groups of three students, as a team activity. I will provide some questions for my students, and I will also give them the links or URLs necessary for finding the answers.

Proficiency D

Uses technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

Example: Concept Map

Reflection:

I will use a concept map in my classroom, because it will help me to better express my ideas and express my unit lesson in a hierarchial order. I do believe that concept mapping is a technique that could help me to understand the relationships between ideas by creating a visual map of the connections. Concept maps will help my students to see the connections between ideas that they may already have (which can be helpful as the connection with the new knowledge). It will also help my students to organize ideas in a logical structure that allows future information or viewpoints.

Proficiency E

Uses technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

Examples: Newsletter
                Concept Map

Reflection:

I will use newsletters in my classroom, because there are very helpful. I can give information to my students and their parents about the new topic, a new lesson, etc. Along with this, I can show important presentations with pictures, Clip Art, activities, resources, web sites, etc. Students and parents can be informed about the material to be covered.

Proficiency F

Promotes safe and healthy use of technology resources.

Example: http://www.techlearning.com/content/ednews/0052802.htm
             http://www.education-world.com/a_tech/tech119.shtml

Reflection:

As educators, I think, one of our main goals is to help young people in developing effective filtering and blocking systems, especially when working on the Internet. The Children's Internet Protection Act requires districts to monitor student use of the Internet and to implement technology-based measures to protect against student access to inappropriate online material.

Proficiency G

Demonstrates continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
