I. What does IP stand for? And what do you understand about IP?
  1. Please open one of your internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Netscape, Safari, etc.)
  2. Once it is open, click on the browser address bar, and type: http://www.google.com
  3. In the google search field type "IP"
  4. Find at the top of the list: Internet Protocol-Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  5. Read the first part refering to "IP"
  6. Open your application Microsoft Office Word , save the document under "activity 1"
  7. Type the concept of "IP" in your own words.
II. Hands-on demonstration for IP.
  1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.
  2. Click Run... in this menu.
  3. Type cmd in the text box that appears. A command prompt window launches on the desktop.
  4. In this command window, type ipconfig /all. Details are shown for each of the computer's network adapters. Computers installed with VPN software or emulation software will possess one or more virtual adapters.
  5. The IP Address field states the current IP address for that network adapter.
  6. The Physical Address field states the MAC address for that adapter.
  7. Explain your procedures in the same Microsoft document.

  1. In one of your internet browsers, search again for: http://www.google.com
  2. In the search field type "PING"
  3. Find at the top of the list: ping-Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  4. Read the first part refering to "PING"
  5. Then, read the history part so you can find the backronym or initialism of PING<>.

    A ping test determines whether your computer can communicate with another computer over the network. Then, if network communication is established, ping tests also determine the connection latency (technical term for delay) between the two computers.
