This
is the official web site of the Edgar
Allen Poe Museum, located in Richmond Virginia.
The site is uniform throughout and has a web-type structure
discussed in
the Web Style Guide, “that pose
few restrictions on the pattern of use.
In this structure the goal is often to mimic associative thought
and the
free flow of ideas, allowing users to follow their interests in a
unique,
heuristic, idiosyncratic pattern.”
Basically you are not restricted in the manner that you navigate
through
the site. Each page offers links to all
other pages including the home page and is in the same location (top)
on each
page. The site doesn't use many colors
and the pictures are condensed so that the user can navigate through
quickly,
without delays in down loading and distractions due to too many colors.
The content of the site gives us a
great source of information that is easily accessible.
The biography link not only gives you a
written biography but also has a time line of his life and a family
tree. There is also links to the various
theories
and essays about Poe’s mysterious death.
The site has a selected works page that gives a brief example of
Poe’s
writing and an option to purchase his works from the museum store. The site also contains information about the
museum, educational resources, online store, and information on how to
support
the museum.
There are many links on this website
including, directions to the museum, current news, a contact page and
outside links
to sites about Poe and his works. The
internal links are very user friendly and offer links back to home page
as well
as all pages offered. The “Poe links”
located on the educational resource page www.poemuseum.org/educational_resources/poe_links.html
offers many link options. If you look
closely you will see some of the links that we have chose to review. However these links take you out of the
Website and you will have to use the “back” icon to return to the site.
The site has an online store that
offers memorabilia from the museum including T-shirts, stuffed dolls,
and
coffee cups. There is also a link that
gives information on supporting the museum with an option to pay online.
