Web
style, Content, Links and Other, are the four criteria we focus on for
reviewing each Edgar Allen Poe site. We are using a four star
rating scale. A site is awarded one star for every criteria that
meets our standards.
For Web style, we are looking at the sites to see if they use good web
design. We learned about web style in our English 328
class by visiting sites like SpiderPro
100 Do's and Don'ts in Web Design and the Web Style Guide. We are
looking for sites that are user friendly and provide good
navigation. Information should be quick and easy to locate.
Getting around the site should also be quick and easy, with access to
every area of the site provided on each page. The sites
should have a professional layout with a consistent design for every
page. They also need to use fonts and color schemes that are
pleasing to look at and easy to read.
When reviewing the content of
a site we look for information that proves the author of the site is
credible. We look at the Biography section of each site and
see how extensive the information on Edgar Allen Poe's life is.
We also look and the Selected Works sections to see how much of Poe's
work is offered.
To earn a star for the Links
portion of our criteria, a site has to offer links to other Edgar Allen
Poe websites. The number, relevance, and quality of the links
provided determines if a star is awarded.
For the Other portion of our
criteria, we are looking for things that are unique to each site.
An on-line store, art gallery or audio clips are examples of things
that would qualify as Other. Again, the number, relevance and
quality of these unique features determines if a star is awarded.
