Strand Five: Productivity and Professional Practices


Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. 

A. Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
B. Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
C. Apply technology to increase productivity.
D. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

Response:  We used this in class by doing several activities.  The spreadsheet and graph was an example of using technology in professional development.  With Microsoft excel, calculations and formulas can be entered to make work a lot easier and less time consuming.  We also used the web outline in which I used in other classes.  This was an outline that helped organize my thoughts in the power point presentation.  I also used the power point in other classes, this is something that I had never felt comfortable do before.  By doing this I gave a presentation using a visual that gave my peers a better understanding on the subject being taught.  Besides the efficiency that technology gives us, we also are able to communicate a lot easier.  For example, in class we made the newsletter for students and parents.  This helps anyone get to know the teacher and about rules announcements in the classroom.  We also used the web discussion to talk about different issues.  This also is a less time consuming way to address any issues.  This can also be used with a teacher and the student's parents.  Many things can be done with technology with out even leaving the classroom!
