Richard Gaskill

I am a high school student at Milan High School. Milan is part of an Early College program that allows randomly chosen applicants to attend Eastern Michigan University full time. I have completed 27 credits at EMU and I can earn up to 60 credits. I wrestled for the Milan Big Reds for seven years and loved every minute of it. I am also very interested in my church. I am involved with the youth group and the technology team. I help coordinate the slides that appear on screen to show the congregation the words to the praise and worship songs. Among other things, the technology team also controls the lights, power point presentations of the sermon, the sound balance and volume and the recordings of the sermons. We present recordings of the sermons to people that request them and try to make the worship services to be as easy to follow as possible.

I enjoy learning, particularly about technology and science, because it seems to be very useful and interesting. I have, so far, planned on majoring in biology and minoring in secondary education. I enjoy teaching people about the reasons behind life and physical sciences. That said, I'm not dead set in this plan and also have found myself really enjoying the computer science classes that I have taken so far. The skills that I have learned from this has thus far been very useful and relevant to the constantly evolving world of technology in our society.

I enjoy doing some things just for the sake of doing them. I like to sing out loud sometimes, though most people would prefer if I would practice a little restraint, especially when I am doing chores or running. Another hobby is that I have tried to learn the guitar. I have been playing for a few months and really enjoy playing the guitar. I have begun to practice with the church's praise team. Gary, our electric guitar player, plays really well so I have a long way to go before I can begin to play similarly to him, but I play for fun so it's not a big deal to me.
